Special Invitation from Marbletown Democrats and UlsterProgress
Join fellow progressives, 7:15pm Friday, Feb. 6th at the Rosendale Theatre for a screening of “Frost/Nixon”, a film which draws startling similarities between American democracy in the 70s and the present day.
The night will also include special guests Larry Beinhart, local author of “Wag The Dog” and “Salvation Boulevard”, Chronogram contributor, and Fulbright Fellow, as well as Art Richter, host of Radio Free Kingston on 1490 AM WKNY. Beinhart and Richter will welcome guests to a cocktail reception from 6:30pm to 7:15pm and will lead a discussion on “The News Media and Accountability: From Bush to Obama” immediately following the film.
“Frost/Nixon”, a Ron Howard film that has received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, is a dramatic retelling of the post-Watergate television interviews between British talk-show host David Frost and former president Richard Nixon. The movie stars Frank Langella, nominated for Best Actor, Michael Sheen, Sam Rockwell, and Kevin Bacon.
Tickets are $15. Proceeds to benefit the Marbletown Democratic Committee. The Rosendale Theatre is located at 401 Main Street in the heart of Rosendale. For more information, call 845-399-9300, or email ulsterprogress@gmail.com

Take Action on the Economic Stimulus Package
From Barbara Upton,
Chair of the Economic Justice Committee of New Paltz and Vicinity for Obama
Dear Friends,
The president’s new stimulus package is on the fast track in
Congress. Pelosi hopes to have it passed by next week!
Trouble is, although it has been touted as a plan for creating a new
clean and green energy future with increased development of renewable and sustainable energy, only 7% of the $825 billion is being allocated for that purpose! And only 10% is planned to rebuild our country’s crumbling infrastructure. Economists say these are the two best ways to create good paying jobs for Americans – the key to economic revitalization.
You can read a summary of the program here-
http://appropriations.house.gov/pdf/PressSummary01-21-09.pdf
One third of the package is going for tax cuts which have been
ineffective in the past in jump starting the economy. Although some
tax relief for the middle class would be welcome, there should be no
tax cuts for corporations or the wealthiest Americans (and loop
holes that allow corporations to avoid paying their fair share of
taxes and Bush’s tax cuts for the richest should be ended now!).
Please contact your elected officials today!! Voting will happen very soon.
Let them know you want more money for job creation through green
energy and infrastucture projects and less for tax cuts.

We’ll be talking green tech, but also habitat and wilderness protection, clean air, environmental projects detrimental to the environment, etc. Broad range of environmental topics. I also hope to have us take on a small local project (perhaps planting of native species).
Review environmental funding proposed in the economic stimulus package at http://appropriations.house.gov/pdf/PressSummary01-21-09.pdf.
Hope to meet many of you on 2/1.
